He composed the pieces in Contemporary Pieces for Classical Guitar during his working years in Finland and over holidays in Andalusia Spain. Originally these pieces were extra material for his pupils, but later noticed, to his delight, that they had been performed in many concerts all over the country. Through these small pieces Arto Jakola hoped to increase the motivation of his students.
